NEWS FROM DSA
A REPORT FROM DSA'S NATIONAL OFFICE

In Solidarity with our Norwegian Sisters and Brothers

Last week, our Norwegian sister party was attacked. Dozens of young activsits at a Labor Party Youth Movement (AUF) summer camp were killed by a madman poisoned by right-wing hatred and delusions of grandeur. As horrific as the violence was, the Norwegian people responded with a firmer commitment to democracy, rather than hatred and repression.
On the other hand, the reaction from the right-wing of this country has been predictable, but still alarming.Glenn Beck offhandedly compared the camp to a Hitler Youth function. Bill O'Reilly has refused to accept that the killer could be a Christian. Worst of all Pat Buchanan,The Wall Street Journal, and The Jerusalem Post all implied that maybe the madman was justified in his attacks, because Norway is a society that has embraced multi-culturalism.John Nichols, a writer for The Nation, expertly takes the right to task in this article.
DSA has issued a statement of solidarity and grief. We are also planning an article in the next issue of Democratic Left. Our thoughts are with the injured and their families and friends.
In solidarity,

Frank Llewellyn
