Shahrzadnews:A third of Iran’s industrial workers are women, mostly employed in mining, food, textiles and carpet-weaving .
Advisor on women’s employment to the country’s Ministry of Heavy Industries Soraya Zafari told the Fars News Agency that 46% of female workers are employed in service industries, 34% in manufacture and the rest in agriculture .
She said those wanting to work in the long-established carpet-making industry must first pass an exam and obtain a work-experience certificate from their local Technical and Professional Assessment Centre. They were also obliged to insure themselves .
Currently a female carpet-weaver has to pay 23,500 tomans a month in national insurance contributions, and must work for twenty years to qualify for a pension .
"Illiterate women living in remote, deprived villages have great difficulty obtaining insurance and dealing with the extensive procedures required before they can work,” said Ms Zafari .
