Economist predicts 14.1% unemployment rate for Iran

The Economist has predicted that Iran’s unemployment rate would increase from the last year’s 13.2 percent to 14.1 percent in 2011, ISNA news agency reported.

In its August report, the Economist has said that the country’s workforce would stand at 26.4 million.

The report has also stated that the number of employed persons in Iran would hit 28.4 million in 2014 and the unemployment rate would be 15.5 percent.

Iran’s unemployment rate was 13.5 percent in the previous Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2011), the head of Statistical Center of Iran announced in June.
Fars News Agency quoted Adel Azar as saying that the rate will decrease to 11 percent in the current calendar year.

During the previous Iranian calendar year the nation’s working population was 25 million, the report added.
