During the era of the Islamic Republic, cruelty and oppression towards the Kurds has reached unprecedented level; an unofficial state of emergency has prevailed in Kurdistan and every
movement by political, civil society and cultural activists is considered through military and
security viewpoint and punished severely. So far hundreds of Kurdish women and men have been
tortured, sentenced to long term imprisonment or execution simply for activities that are considered
as basic rights for a human being in a democratic and free society.
As the most recent example, we can point out the execution of those 4 Kurdish activists and another
Iranian political prisoner at Evin prison in Tehran on May 9th 2010. Farzad Kamangar, a school
teacher in Kamiaran, Ali Heydariyan, Farhad Vakili, Shirin Alamhooli and Mehdi Eslamian who
were executed by the Iranian cruel authorities did not commit any crime. If they were living in a
free country, they would never experience a single day of imprisonment. But in the absence of a
lawyer and a fair trial, and without getting the chance to defend themselves, they were sentenced to
death behind the closed doors and sorrowfully they were hanged while the whole world was silent.
The Iranian government has turned the Kurdistan region into a human slaughter-house in order to
intimidate the Iranian people. Whenever the government faces a challenge or a political protest in
big cities, it resorts to kill innocent Kurdish prisoners. Right now there are hundreds of Kurdish
activists in different prisons in Iran; among them the founder of the Kurdistan Human Rights
Organisation Mr. Mohammad Sedigh Kabudvand. Seventeen of these political prisoners have been
Convicted to death penalty and there is a high risk that they will face execution in the current
Intimidation campaign.
We as Iranian Kurds are surprised to see that such a criminal government is treated and negotiated
With as a legal representative for the Iranian people not only by many governments but also by the
United Nations. More sadly is the fact that some members of the United Nations did accept the
invitation from Iranian authorities to attend a conference which was held in Tehran on April 17th
2010.
We appeal to all human rights defenders, governments, humanistic and freedom seeking institutions
and organisations all over the world to hear the voice of young Kurdish men and women and not let
the criminal authorities of Islamic Republic of Iran to slaughter and hang them in order to intimidate
the others.
Most Respectfully Yours
Khalid Azizi - Secretary General
